Teen Quilt Academy in its 16th year!

Ancaster’s Teen Quilt Academy 2013
in its 16th year!
Sponsored by Fieldcote Museum and run by Aline
Held at the Ancaster Old Township Hall
Mentors: Alice, Lela, Carrie, Joan

Every new student at the Academy had a mentor.
√ Two students to one teacher
Returning students worked on their own but the mentors were there to assist and guide.
Rotary cutters were not to be used by students under 13 years of age.
  Fabrics were precut before class.
The GO and Studio Cutters were useful.

Grace is in her 7th year at the Academy - she started as a pre-teen.
Nicole's first year of quilting
Brittany was the youngest this year and was accompanied by her grandmother, Diane - another second generation family of quilters. Her sister, Nicole, is pictured above.
Grace is in her 7th year and has made 9 quilts and is an award winner at the Ancaster Fair. She attended part-time this year as her summer job interfered with her quilting time!
Kaitlyn is in her third year - she made three quilts during her week at the Academy, while she had another 3 more nearing completion. She is a prolific and enthusiastic quilter.
Two generations of quilters - Alice, Emily, Chloe and Joan.
Emily& Chloe are Joan's granddaughters.
Kaitlyn works on another quilt top...
To the left is Mary. She is a tutor and was not to be out-done by her charges' wonderful quilts. She used an older Singer sewing machine that made a beautiful and envious stitch! This is Mary's first quilt. To her right is Debbie, a first time quilter.
Ta da! Nicole is finished!
See that happy smile on Nicole's face! Her first quilt!
10-year old Nicole made the finish line! She thought she would never get there!
Annie is visiting from Holland. This is her first quilt!
Emily had to do some ripping and found that she enjoyed working outdoors. This is her first quilt. She now knows about scant 1/4" seams and pinning and reverse stitching! She and Chloe were determined to make 6 pillowcases each, all to be gifted to various family members...
Chloe smiles at the fact that her first quilt is completed! 'Sign me up for another Academy', she says.
This is Alex's first quilt. She missed the first day due to a part-time job and worked hard to catch up with the others. Her yellow and black prints gave her quilt that extra zing!
Group photo on the last day - several participants had already left for home. Some of our mentors are at the back. We are waiting for SNAP photographer, Shelly, to arrive.

Esther finishes another quilt. Esther is in her 5th year and is another award winner at the Ancaster Fair.

Evelyn's quilt top. Evelyn is a returning quilter. Due to a summer job, she attended part-time.
