Precut Fabric Terminology a fabric revolution!

The Jelly Roll and Charm Pack Revolution
A veritable bakery!
Jelly Rolls
Dessert Rolls
Honey Buns
Turnovers
Layer Cakes
These pre-cuts are my ‘dream come true’. I seldom cut fabric in yardage any more.
Even the names sound tempting!
Moda Fabrics has revolutionized the way we buy fabric. They even call themselves the Moda Bake Shop!
There are books and patterns dedicated to using these pre-cuts.
My friend, Sue, is a beginning quilter and she says that this is the best way to quilt!
Jelly Rolls are a girl's best friend!

Pre-cuts are very convenient for me.
I know the cuts are precise and I don’t have to fiddle with rulers and rotary cutters. I simply sit and sew…and the coordinated fabrics enable me to make practical use of my time as I don’t waste time trying to coordinate fabric. I finish my projects in half the time I use to.

  •   Pre-cuts provide one sample of each fabric in a collection. I can always get more in yardage if I need it.
·        Some people say that pre-cuts are expensive – no more so than if I had to buy ¼ yard of several fabrics – and it saves me time spent choosing fabrics. 3 yards of fabric gives me a jelly roll – figure out the math. A Jelly Roll in Canada is around $40.

Terminology
Charm Packs - 5" squares. Each square is called a charm and a pack has 40     charms.

Honey Buns - they are 1 1/2" wide x 42" in length (the width of the bolt   of fabric). They come in a roll. If sewing with 1/4" seam allowance, they finish 1" wide. I use these for borders or sashing or making piano key borders.

Jelly Rolls - they are 2 1/2" wide x 42" (the width of the bolt of fabric). These have become my BFF. I use them to make binding, borders, sashing AND even my quilt tops.

Dessert Rolls - These are 5" wide x 42" in length. They are like Jelly Rolls but twice the width. They are ideal for borders and for most quilts but they have not replaced Jelly Rolls for my projects.

Turnovers - they are 6" triangles and comes in packages of 80. I have not used these yet - they are in my stash. If I were making half-square triangles, I prefer to use my charm packs for them.
